AI Will Do What Photography Did to Art
Mar 17, 2024
Photography made it less impressive to paint reality because the camera could capture reality better than we could.
While photography displaced realist paintings, it created more space for abstract art, which comes from imagination, and cannot be captured by a camera.
And thus, a new wave of “modern art” emerged.
AI can perform specific tasks better than we can, which will leave us with excess capacity to focus on other things that no AI model can predict.
Areas in which there is no pre-existing data to train on, or in which outlier data would be dismissed.
It will allow us to thrive in the divergent, imaginative, speculative spaces of thought and creation.
And thus, a new wave of “modern intelligence” will emerge.
not defined by knowledge, skill, or logic - but by imagination, taste, and creativity.
